How much can I customize the storefront gate?
It starts with your active theme's typography and colors. In Shopify's Theme Editor you can adjust the message, buttons, colors, corner radius, exit destination, and visitor memory duration without editing theme code.
Does the app automatically approve IDs?
The first ID decision is always made by authorized staff from the same Shopify store. HonestGate does not use OCR, face matching, or AI approval. If the merchant enables reuse, a later eligible order from the same Shopify customer account can use that saved human result without another upload.
Will returning customers need to upload ID again?
Not for every order. A current, non-revoked approval can cover a later eligible order from the same Shopify customer account at that store. The merchant controls the approval lifetime, and expiration, revocation, a higher minimum age, or an account mismatch requires a fresh review.
How does the app handle ID images?
Images are normalized, stripped of embedded metadata, stored outside public Shopify Files, and scoped to the submitting store and paid order. Staff links expire after two minutes, and merchants choose a raw-image retention period from 1 to 30 days.
Can the app help coordinate fulfillment?
Merchants can optionally request an app-owned fulfillment hold while review is incomplete. Shopify features, timing, other apps, and merchant actions can affect holds, so staff must verify order status before fulfillment.
Can version one target only certain products?
No. When the workflow is enabled, HonestGate evaluates every newly paid order. An eligible order with a current saved account approval can skip a new upload; other orders enter review. Product and market rules are planned for a later version.
What Shopify setup is required?
The store needs a compatible Shopify plan with the Online Store sales channel; Shopify Starter is not supported. The merchant enables the theme app embed, adds the Thank You upload block, chooses the saved-approval policy, and turns on the workflow after confirming every newly paid order should receive an age decision.
